On 10 and 11 March 2026, the Committee of European Auditing Oversight Bodies (CEAOB) held its 30th plenary meeting that took place in Brussels.
Main outcomes
The members adopted the 2025 CEAOB Annual Report and exchanged views on a range of key matters. These included a presentation by the Chair of the Observer Task Force (TF), who provided a quarterly update on its ongoing work, as well as updates from two CEAOB members on the progress and current status of their peer review.
Members discussed the CEAOB’s written response to the European Commission (EC) in the context of the Commission’s stakeholder consultation on a potential initiative to strengthen audit supervision within the EU. In addition, they received an update on the latest developments concerning the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB).
Further discussions addressed stakeholder engagement priorities for 2026–2027. Members also received a presentation from a representative of IAASA on consistent regulatory approaches to CSRD assurance across Member States, followed by a presentation from the EC on the Savings and Investments Union (SIU) strategy.
Finally, members exchanged views on issues related to the attractiveness of the audit profession and the retention of talent.
Activities of the sub-groups
The Chair of the Enforcement Sub-Group updated members on recent activities, including the scope of the 2026 Enforcement Questionnaire and the upcoming sub-group meeting to be held in Malta in May 2026.
The Chair of the International Equivalence and Adequacy Sub-Group provided updates on ongoing activities and presented the main workstreams of the sub-group, including the mapping of third-country auditors registered in the EU and the development of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC).
The Chair of the Inspections Sub-Group reported on ongoing activities, the next sub-group meeting, and the status of the work of the Audit Quality Indicators Task Force (AQI TF).
The Chair of the International Auditing Standards Sub-Group updated members on recent activities and on the preparation of CEAOB technical advice concerning a standard on limited assurance for sustainability reporting.
The Chair of the Market Monitoring Sub-Group updated members on recent activities and the progress of the fourth Market Monitoring Report.
Stakeholder outreach
As part of its stakeholder outreach activity, the CEAOB invited representatives from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to discuss topics of common interest.
